Mayor Caps State of the City Address by Announcing Downtown Fort Wayne Grocery Store

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Mayor Sharon Tucker’s second State of the City address emphasized this past year’s successes in Fort Wayne and how that growth will continue in 2026.

Wednesday at the Grand Wayne Center, Tucker laid out plans for development this year, and many of the projects have already been on the community’s radar. But one development is newly announced: a grocery store downtown.

Surack Enterprises, led by local entrepreneur Chuck Surack, is putting in the grocery store west of the Pearl Street Arts Center. Tucker said construction is scheduled to begin this year, with an expected opening in the first quarter of 2027. Renderings show the plan is to name the store “District Market.”
